My observations about vibroacoustic technologies, as a means for healing, after attending the Music as Medicine Conference in Spain
I attended the 5th annual IAMM Conference in Spain in June, 2018. My expectations were pretty high with hopes of meeting others doing similar or better work with vibroacoustic technologies. However, there were none even close to what we are doing with the Harmonic Egg and the resonant chamber. There was one technology that used a zero-gravity chair with speakers in it as a whole body healing modality, but that had a pad over the speakers in the chair so I know we already resolved that issue from distorting the music by playing it through a pad. They had a home version of the technology with just two speakers in a pad and openly admitted to NO results from the home version over the whole-body chair. That told me a lot about working to heal the whole body as a system.
Many of the technologies were using headphones and an MP3 player and I don’t know if they knew NOT to use compressed MP3 files for the best quality of listening. Compressed MP3 files are cold and clinical. They are for convenience and not healing. I was pretty disappointed to not be able to “network” and learn more than I have already studied on my own.
All the presenters had research on how music therapy has worked in their practice / business. Many were medical doctors and / or credible PhD practitioners. Presenters were from 10+ countries and attendees were from 20+ countries. I made some good contacts and will be following up to chat with peers about their research and how we can get even better results.
Two observations I want to highlight in this writing. There were so many, but let’s focus on these two for now.
Many of them presented and felt that patients would not get completely free of the dis-ease / illness, but would sustain a level of wellness. I disagreed. I have seen people get better and not just sustain. I spoke to many of them about this hope and how we have helped using more than music therapy. Some didn’t understand the relationship with heavy metals and neurotoxins with Parkinson’s so I gave them another layer of help for their patients. One doctor said that patients would never get rid of Parkinson’s but could have a quality life if they came for treatments the rest of their lives. I felt terrible to hear that because I want people to come to the Life Center and, after a period of time, their body will take over the healing and they are not dependent on a technology or person to keep them well. Our bodies are amazing and we can heal from “named” dis-ease. We just have to get back into balance and reset the system. Yes?
No one that spoke talked about the different musical instruments doing different things for the body. They ALL (and this really blew my mind) said they let the patient / client choose their own / favorite music for therapy. WHAT?! Some spoke about Katy Perry and Shania Twain music and some spoke about Enya and others. Don’t get me wrong. I love some of the music, but I have studied voice analysis and how different instruments have different effects on the body. For example, piano can help balance / reset the nervous system. Some of the doctors discussed how disease starts from the nervous system getting out of balance and they know we need to reset it to heal. I don’t believe Katy Perry’s music will do this.
In my studies, I have been told that if a singer has an imbalance or disease it can be picked up by others that listen to their music. How? I don’t know. It does make sense to me because everything is energy and we do affect each other in ways we don’t quite understand. We can feel down when around others that feel down. We can feel excited when around others that are excited. It makes sense, but my question is why doesn’t everyone get effected? Maybe because we are all vibrating at different frequencies and those of us vibrating at the same frequencies as the one transmitting the dis-ease can pick it up? Just a theory for now. I keep learning more on this topic.
The other danger of listening to your favorite music as music therapy is that you might not be getting the piano you need to balance / reset the nervous system. If you are just getting drumming and guitar to help heal dis-ease or illness that requires flute and trumpet you won’t get the results you could get if you listened to the proper music. Everything I read on this topic shows that different instruments can work on different conditions / organs / chakras for the body. I often hear people say they don’t like piano music. My opinion is two-fold. One they never really spent time listening to it. Two it makes people feel uncomfortable as they are so out of balance and the body will actually get uncomfortable when coming into a new normal. Change is always uncomfortable. When you are stuck in flight or fight for so long and you ask the body to come into balance there WILL be resistance to change. Let it flow…
Ok, you are probably all getting bored by now so let’s end with that food for thought.
In summary, I want to thank all of you who have supported the Life Center and the Harmonic Egg, and who have believed in me and in it for your healing. I am humbled and in gratitude to the thousands of people that have come to the center and provided such great feedback. I truly believe we can heal using the right environment, the right music, diet and intention. We are in an exciting time and seeing great modalities for natural healing (some helpful and some hurtful), but we have to let the cream rise to the top and the Harmonic Egg is the cream so go out and find what is right for you and enjoy your healing journey.
My life is forever changed from vibroacoustic technologies and I look forward to what the future holds. I am blessed to be of service and to keep learning. Everyone I met in Spain was on a journey to be of service and help others heal. Great hearts and minds coming together to give people hope. I plan to write some case studies and submit them to the association. I was asked to submit when they do the call for papers to be a speaker at the conference in 2020. Very excited!
